Arthur M. Mitchell
Arthur M. Mitchell is a Senior Advisor to Global Strategic Associates, LLC (GSA), residing in Tokyo. Arthur supports the firm’s advisory services in Japan, North America and elsewhere in Asia.
Arthur has over 45 years of experience, much of it in Asia and is one of the leading American lawyers specializing in investment and financing transactions around the world.
Before joining White & Case, LLP in their Tokyo office, Arthur was General Counsel (2003 – 2007) of the Asian Development Bank (ADB). While at the ADB he supervised all aspects of legal advice given with respect to documentation of public sector and private sector loan transactions, equity investments, political risk guarantees and bond financings. Mr. Mitchell managed an office comprised of 42 attorneys from 18 countries and was responsible for compliance with Bank policies and procedures. He advised the President and the Board of Directors on corporate governance, institutional and administrative matters, and all litigation involving the bank.
Arthur is currently a member of various professional associations, including: The Association of the Bar of the City of New York, Daini Tokyo Bar Association, Council on Foreign Relations, Member, Energy and Environment Committee, ACCJ, Governing Council of the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO), Member of the Board of Directors of Sumitomo Mitsui Financial Group, Inc., Member of the Board of Directors of Komatsu Ltd., Advisor to Sumitomo Life Insurance Company and Senior Advisor to White & Case LLP.
Arthur has a B.S., Political Science from the University of California, Berkeley and a J.D. from the Harvard Law School.
